In an action by a traveler for injuries received from collision with a locomotive at a grade crossing, if the evidence is sufficient to establish the reasonable need of special crossing-protection the plaintiff must also establish that the omission of such protection produced the injury. Thus, in the absence of evidence that a grade-crossing is obscure, a traveler who remains unaware of its existence after passing by the statutory warning-sign three hundred feet away and also a cross-arm at the crossing, manifested such negligent inattention to his surroundings as to prohibit the inference that additional moving or stationary warning signs would have aroused his attention.
